Skaters for Portland Skateparks

2 of 19 – The event was scheduled for after school but apparently some kids had been waiting outside the fence for hours.

Mayor Tom Potter, Commissioner Dan Saltzman and Commissioner Sam Adams were on hand to celebrate the opening of the Glenhaven Skatepark. The skateboarders of Portland are fortunate to have such a supportive city council.

It was mayhem in the street section with everyone trying to figure the place out.

The Glenhaven Peanut bowl. 8.5 foot deep end, 3.5 shallow, pool coping, steps, perfect.

The brick bank simulation is a great textural addition to the ride.

SOLV-IT cleanup day was today and several volunteers turned out to clean up the Pier Park Skatepark. Folks picked up trash and worked on graffiti removal and coverup. It was four and a half hours of hard work coordinated by The Friends of Pier Park and supported by Portland Parks and Recreation. Thanks for your hard work everyone. The park looks great. It’s nice to be able to ride without the distraction of really dumb graffiti.

I did a commemorative design for Glenhaven Skatepark opening day. Super limited-edition Took me forever to get it done – so we’re scrambling here and only making two-dozen large and a dozen medium tees. I’ll have them at the event tomorrow. In my basement I still have boxes of stuff from Pier Park Opening Day.

Jay Meer is creating a sign for the Glenhaven Skatepark. Opening ceremonies Friday at 3:00 p.m.

And while you’re here. Saturday, April 28th is the Pier Park cleanup. Come out and help us cleanup and remove graffiti from 9:00 - 1:00. Barbecue afterward.

The show should be good. Smay from Rebel Skates is running a raffle to benefit SPS. We’re going to get something covered to skate if it kills us. He’s going to raffle a board or two and some shirts and hats and other stuff.
